COTUL hosts the 4th Scientific Conference, Training Workshops and Annual General Meeting at the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) from 07th to 11th November, 2022  

The Consortium of Tanzania University and Research Libraries (COTUL) hosts the 4th Scientific Conference, Training Workshops and the Annual General Meeting from 07th to 11th November 2022 at the prestigious  Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) in the Arusha region.

 During the good five days, there will be paper presentations from 7th to 8th November 2022 focusing on the Conference theme entitled: Utilizing Digital Technologies for Enhancing Information Services: Opportunities and Challenges. Parallel to the presentation of the paper there will be a training workshop session from 9th to 10th November 2022 entitled: Strategies for Discovery and Utilization of Scholarly Content in Academic and Research Institutions. The training workshops are aimed at equipping participants with practical skills for retrieving subscribed e-resources databases, troubleshooting problems related to accessing e-resources; and, exploring alternative methods of discovering the e-resources. On 11th November 2022, there will be the COTUL Annual General Meeting for all Information Professionals, Librarians, ICT Professionals, Academics, Researchers, Records and Archives Personnel, and Documentation Officers.
 
In his welcome remarks, Dr Cairo Mwaitete, the Acting Rector of IAA acknowledged the vital role of COTUL in our country. He insists the conference participants to make use of the conference by exploring, and taking opportunities and challenges of digital technologies for problem-solving approaches.
 
Dr. Sydney Msonde, the Chairperson of COTUL addressed the audience during the introductory remarks, he expressed his gratitude to all conference participants for their commitment in attending this spectacular event.
 
The 4th Scientific Conference officiated by Honourable Eng. Richard Ruyango, the Arumeru District Commissioner, representing the Guest of Honour, Dr. Francis Michael, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Speaking at the conference Honourable Eng. Ruyango reveals the fact that a great knowledge-based society hinges on effective and efficient utilize of digital technologies for enhancing information services. The emergency of digital technologies is about developing capacity to citizens to master their environment(s) to bring about meaningful changes and development.
 
He further narrates that, it is undeniable fact that dynamic academic and research institutions, today, are operating differently than they did several decades ago. On this century has been characterized by a variety of forces such as technological development, changes of policies, economic shifts and intense demands and use of information services.
 
On this colourful event, Honourable Eng. Ruyango was accompanied by Dr. Sydney Msonde, the Chairperson; Prof. Kelefa Mwantimwa, the Deputy Chairperson; Dr. Vincent Msonge, the Executive Secretary; Ms. Amina Hilika, the Deputy Secretary; and Dr. Juliana Manyerere, the Treasury of COTUL that included on ponder, reflect, chat and deliberates decent dialogues and analysis of pertinent issues on the possible best way(s) forward for our institutions’ digital technologies.
