Call for a Training Workshop on Enhancing the Promotion of Open Knowledge Practices in Libraries and Information Centres

COTUL is calling for participants to attend a Training Workshop on Enhancing the Promotion of Open Knowledge Practices in Libraries and Information Centres that will be held for five (5) days from 27^th to 31^st May 2024 at Arusha Technical College, in Arusha City.

Workshop theme: Enhancing the Promotion of Open Knowledge Practices in Libraries and Information Centres

Introduction

Open knowledge encompasses a range of initiatives aimed at making information available to the public. The role of the library is to ensure the availability, access, and dissemination of knowledge to patrons in a convenient manner. The training workshop aims to update participants’ knowledge of open knowledge practices so as to become proactive in co-creating, designing and implementing open knowledge mechanisms to facilitate access to information.

 Learning outcomes:

The training workshop intends to impart knowledge to participants to understand the following:

• Library’s roles in nurturing Open Knowledge Initiatives
• Institutional supportive strategies in Open Knowledge practices
• Open knowledge infrastructure
• Open knowledge competencies for library professionals
• Open knowledge policies
• Best practices of Openness in Libraries

Dates: 27^th to 31^st May 2024

Location: Arusha Technical College, in Arusha City

Target group: Information professionals, librarians, ICT professionals, academics, researchers, records and archives personnel, and documentation officers.

Registration fee:

A registration fee of TZS 500,000/ = should be paid for each participant from COTUL member institutions and TZS 600,000/= for non-members. The fee covers meals, refreshments, venue and training materials. Participants are requested to seek financial support from their parent institutions to facilitate their transport, accommodation and subsistence allowances to upkeep them while in Arusha.
